Sheriff Dave Hunhoff has been elected to the office of Yankton County
Sheriff seven consecutive times. He is the longest serving sheriff in
Yankton County's history, having served over 25 years as sheriff and
over 31 years in the sheriff's office. Sheriff Hunhoff oversees a staff
of a secretary and eight deputies who provide 24-hour coverage to Yankton
County. Dave Hunhoff is native to Yankton County and served four years
in the United States Air Force and earned a Bachelor degree from the
University of South Dakota in
1977. Hunhoff is also a graduate of the National Sheriffs Institute and
the Rural Executive Management Institute. Hunhoff has maintains his training
and skills in law enforcement having been trained in Scientific Content
Analysis and Computerized Voice Stress Analysis.
Hunhoff has also served as Chairman of the South Dakota Law Enforcement
Civil Service Commission, Director of the SE-South Dakota Drug Task
Force and President of the South Dakota Sheriffs Association.
