Don
Holloway became Sheriff of Pennington County in January 1983 and is currently
serving his 5th four-year term, making him the
longest serving Sheriff in Pennington County history. Prior to taking
office as Sheriff, he was the Court Administrator for the Seventh Judicial
Circuit from 1980 – 1982 and was a Deputy Sheriff/Chief Deputy
from 1968 – 1980. His expertise and professionalism from thirty-plus
years in law enforcement is evident in the successful operation of
his full-service office with 290 employees, a 360 bed adult jail, a
100 bed
juvenile detention facility, and a 55 bed drug and alcohol detox/treatment
center. Sheriff Holloway holds a B.S. degree from Black Hills State
University in Sociology and Psychology and an A.A. degree from the
University of
South Dakota in Criminal Justice. He is an active member of the South
Dakota law enforcement community serving on many state and local task
forces and civic organizations.
