Mike Leidholt took office as Sheriff of Hughes County in January 1995 and has been working in law enforcement for close to thirty years. Sheriff Leidholt previously served as a deputy sheriff in Hughes County and Assistant Police Chief and Police Officer for the City of Fort Pierre. Mike is very involved in both his local community and the law enforcement community. He is a member of the Pierre Kiwanis, Faith Lutheran Church, Pierre-Ft. Pierre FOP, WRICOPS, CASA, South Dakota Standards and Training Commission, the South Dakota Sheriffs’ Association and is on the Board of Directors for the National Sheriffs’ Association to name a few. As Sheriff of Hughes County, Mike oversees a staff of twenty-two employees including five sworn deputy sheriffs and a forty-eight bed jail.
