Marty Stanwick is currently starting his second term as Sheriff in Brookings
County, being elected in 1998. Prior to taking office, he was a member
of the Brookings Police Department for 20 years, leaving with a rank
of Patrol Lieutenant. He is a member of the South Dakota Sheriff's Association,
the National Sheriff's Association, and the South Dakota D.A.R.E. Officer's
Association. Marty is also a member of several local committees and organizations
including the Brookings
Board of Directors for East Central Mental Health Foundation, Domestic
Abuse Shelter, Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT) and the Sterling
Township Board. As Sheriff of Brookings County, Marty oversees the operation
of the Sheriff's
Office and the Detention Center. Marty and his wife, Lori, have two young
children.
