Tom Beerman became Sheriff of Beadle County in January 1987 and has a law enforcement career spanning more than twenty-eight years. Prior to taking office as Sheriff, Tom spent eleven years as a patrolman with the Huron Police Department. Sheriff Beerman is a native of Beadle County, graduating from Huron High School in 1965. He is active in the community and many organizations including the American Legion, VFW, Beadle County Democrats, South Dakota Sheriffs’ Association, and South Dakota Peace Officers Association. Sheriff Beerman oversees eighteen staff including five sworn deputies at the Beadle County Sheriff’s Office and also operates a sixty bed jail. Sheriff Beerman is married, has five children and three grandchildren. He has a son, Tony, who is a patrolman with the Huron Police Department.
